The project Inclusive Mobility in Vocational Education and Training (IMVET) aims to contribute to more inclusive mobilities for VET students with disabilities. During this project we gain insight into the needs and barriers these students face before, during and after their mobility and raise awareness on the opportunities for improvement. We also increase the knowledge and skills of VET professionals for supporting these students. Lastly, we provide accessible information and share experiences of other students to lower the barriers for students to start a mobility experience.
The main targetgroup of this project is students with disabilities. Based on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD, 2006), this group is defined as ‘students with long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments or learning difficulties.’ We focus on this group of students, and therefore also involve them, in the research, the toolkit and the information provision. During this project, we work with the definition for students with disabilities of the UN CRPD.

The second target group is VET educational professionals that are working on internationalisation and international
mobilities and support students before, during and after their mobility. This can be staff, such as international coordinators and internship supervisors and teachers.

The indirect targetgroup consists of policymakers of organisations dealing with VET mobility policies at regional,national or European level, such as the Ministries of Education. Also, employers working with interns are targeted indirectly.

We will research the needs and opportunities with regards to inclusive mobilities and students with disabilities. We will spread our research report among our own organisations and it will be presented in multiple regional, national and European networks.This will lead to increased awareness on the importance of inclusive mobility programs and knowledge on needs and opportunities to contribute to inclusive mobility. ​

We will develop a toolkit for VET professionals with a self-assessment tool and practical guidelines on how to make mobility programs more inclusive for students with disabilities. This toolkit provides VET professionals with a better understanding of inclusive mobility programs in their school and opportunities of improving them. Good practices and experiences from different countries are collected and shared in the toolkit. ​

To remove obstacles for students with disabilities by creating accessible information for them. This can be focused on, for example, making information better retrievable, or making the content more in line with questions and doubts students with disabilities have. The objective is that these materials are considered to be accessible and useful for students with disabilities.​

Inclusive education is a priority in the European Pillar of Social Right (European Commission, 2017). Everyone has the right to inclusive education. This is also stated in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD, 2006).However, persons with disabilities often experience barriers during their studies and inclusive education is not reached. Also with regards to international mobility, students with disabilities experience barriers which results in not many of them participating in mobility programs (European Commission, Erasmus+ Annual Report 2022). Yet, an international experience is very important for the development of students. Studying or working abroad provides students with the opportunity to develop their independence, self-confidence and resilience (European Commission, Education and Training Monitor, 2018).

The project Inclusive Mobility in Vocational Education and Training (IMVET) contributes to inclusive mobility programmes by providing insights on opportunities for improvement and by providing practical tools for VET professionals working on mobility programs. Also, it provides accessible and inspirational information materials for students with disabilities to to lower barriers for them to go abroad. All results will be available for all other schools in Europe and for other relevant stakeholders. Total budget is 400 000€
